A Day in Athens, Greece

We woke up around 8 AM and started the day with breakfast on our little balcony — such a peaceful way to begin the morning.

Then it was time to explore Athens! I have to say, I really like this city. The apartment we’re staying in is in a fantastic location; we’ve been able to walk pretty much everywhere.

Our first stop was the Panathenaic Stadium, or “Kalimarmaro.” We snapped a few photos and enjoyed the grand atmosphere. From there, we walked over to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and passed by Hadrian’s Arch. The entrance fee was €16 per person, but it also included access to several other archaeological sites, which made it worth it.

Next, we made our way to the Acropolis. It was extremely windy and packed with tourists, but still incredible to see in person.

After that, we had lunch near the Acropolis Museum at a place called Manga Café — a great little spot. Then we visited the museum itself. A taxi driver the night before had told us it was “the greatest museum in the world.” While it was interesting, I have to admit I’ve seen better.

Later, we wandered through the charming Plaka neighborhood and stumbled upon a small bar where we enjoyed a glass of champagne.

After that, we checked out the famous Poet Sandal Maker shop — but it was crowded with American housewives chatting endlessly about Hollywood, so we didn’t stay long.

Moving along....

We continued on to the main shopping area, browsed a few stores, and then had dinner at a Japanese restaurant called Furin Kazan. The portions were huge.

In the evening, we walked up to the Parliament building just in time to watch the changing of the guards — such a fun and unique experience. From there, we strolled through the National Garden and finally made our way back home. Wish we were staying a little longer!
