A Quick Getaway to Frode’s Hometown: Stavanger

A Quick Getaway to Frode’s Hometown: Stavanger

We spent a short but sweet five days in Stavanger, and even though the time flew by, we managed to soak in some quality moments with family and friends.

Hello Stavanger!

Although it was officially summer in Norway, the weather felt more like a chilly Sydney winter! Cue the winter jackets—brrr…

Winter jackets, brr...

Strolling by the lake

One of the highlights was a peaceful walk around the lake near Frode’s grandma’s house. As always, family time in Norway means plenty of coffee and cakes. This trip was no exception—though maybe a little less cake than usual since Frode was feeling under the weather (and by the end, so were his mom and I… thanks, Frode!).

We caught up with Frode’s childhood best friend, Thomas, over a fantastic Indian meal. We were sad to have missed his 50th birthday celebration a couple of weeks ago—it looked like an incredible party! After dinner, we enjoyed a brisk evening stroll through Stavanger’s charming old town.

We also spent a lovely day with Frode’s dad and Marit, which included bowling followed by a delicious home cooked dinner.

Snack (appetizer)

One of the standout moments of the trip was an eight-course dining experience at Bellies, a new vegan restaurant Frode’s mom arranged for us. The dishes were creative, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Here’s a glimpse of the menu:

1. A trio of delicate appetizers
2. Tomato, grilled paprika, Sea buckthorn, and Gochujang soup
3. Nettle ravioli, wild garlic, and asparagus
4. Summer cabbage, sambal, and peanut
5. Celeriac, lovage, and horseradish
6. Lion's Mane, wild rose and yeast
7. Rhubarb, white tea, cherry blossom and fig leaf
8. Black koji, miso, sesame and fennel seeds

It was an unforgettable culinary adventure and such a special way to wrap up our visit!

Five days went by in a blink, but it was packed with warmth (even if the weather wasn’t) and so much love. Until next time, Stavanger!

Tusen Takk!
